The Maltese Association of Dermatology and Venereology (MADV) was set up in 1994, on the initiative of Joseph Pace who was President until 2016. He was succeeded by Michael Boffa, and subsequently by myself in 2023, along with a revamped council committed to build on the good work of previous councils. It is encouraging to note that the membership of our association continues to grow with the addition of more and more fresh and enthusiastic younger new faces.

The MADV is committed to promoting the highest standard of Dermatology and Venereology practice in Malta, in the best interest of patients, and for the long term benefit of our society. It is proud to be a point of reference for our members, represent our specialty in national and international fora and, above all, be an advocate for our patients with stakeholders.

MADV endeavours to continue to be instrumental in facilitating regular CME events both on a local as well as international level. We also continue to oversee local specialist training through our representation in the Specialist Accreditation Committee (SAC), and support local trainees in the form of travel grants and research grants. On the international scene we shall of course continue to be represented on the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) board as well as on the UEMS Section and Board of Dermatolo-Venereology. This in addition to our affiliation to other important international bodies such as the International League of Dermatology Society (ILDS) and International Union of Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI).

Health education is another role that our association takes seriously. We have been co-ordinating the local EuroMelanoma Campaign since the year 2000 as well as actively supporting prominent patient support groups such as the Malta Psoriasis Association and Malta Eczema Society for many years.

I look forward to working with the new council and all our members with a view to upholding the best interests our speciality and ensuring that patient needs are met.
